Arbol chillies, integral to Mexican cuisine, are the fiery essence behind chilli sauce, pizza sprinkles, and infusing heat into diverse dishes. Known as "chile de árbol" in Spanish, they also go by the names "rat’s tail chilli" or "bird’s beak chilli." These slender, petite chillies measure around 5 to 7 centimeters and boast a vibrant red hue, delivering a potent punch of flavor and heat. Interestingly, their seeds hold no spiciness, allowing for a milder taste by removing them. Combine them with chipotle morita chillies to craft a smoky, fiery salsa. For a gentler dressing for salads and pizzas, blend this salsa with soured cream. On the Scoville Scale, these chillies score 30,000 units, providing intense heat.
Remember to store any leftover chillies in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.
